Visit the nearby fishing village of Hall's Harbour where you can observe the action of the world's highest tides. Visit artists' studios, hunt for antiques and sample seafood and lobster. Tuesday, August 04, 2009 Spartex/Doublestencil American Heritage Collection Applique and Wholecloth kits and a Benartex wholecloth kit too  Tonight I'm posting my vintage Doublestencil wholecloth and wholecloth/applique quilts.This will be a rather long post so I may break it into two parts and do the rest in the morning. First I have two full/queen sized kits, both very lovely. The kit on the right is a huge kit measuring 88 by 114 inches, so I think it could really be called a king/queen. A challenge, but a true heirloom once it is completed. This kit is complete with all applique pieces but will need backing and batting. I have found that by far the best batting is the Request weight of Quilter's Dream 100% cotton batting - drapes beautifully and gives that mellow, antique look. Worth every cent of the little extra you will pay for it. QUILT KIT PRICE: $225 USD  Above is the Spartex/Doublestencil full/queen sized wholecloth quilt kit "Pineapple Delight" which is a traditional wholecloth pattern. It is in an antique white which is a very light ecru or cream. Nothing compares with the wonderful feeling of relaxation that comes over you as you work on a wholecloth - it is almost like meditation as you fall into the rhythm of effortless handquilting. In fact I'm very tempted to start a small one myself or the queen size that I bought out of package - may do that very soon - I could do with some relaxation!!
