Quilts at the Harbour 11 wrap up

Having kicked back for a couple of weeks or so I've finally gotten my figures pulled together. I want to thank Linda for her lovely comment about her trip up to Hall's Harbour for the show - it reflects many comments received at the show by people who came from the Halifax Dartmouth area or from farther afield.

We raised about $750 for the church - our best so far, and also sold three full sized quilts and many smaller quilted items. The money raised will stay within our small community and the interest generated in our tourist destination area and in our local culture, reflects the win/win situation of practicing sustainable rural development.

I want to remind everyone that we will be holding a one day show on Friday July 1, 2010 called Celebrate Canada! in conjunction with the many Canada Day events in the community, and as usual, our two day Quilts at the Harbour 12 Show and Sale will take place on Saturday September 24 and Sunday September 25, 2010 both shows at the United Baptist Church on West Hall's Harbour Road. Hall's Harbour, Nova Scotia - Quilts at the Harbour Show and Sale is this weekend!!

Time to remind everyone that our 11th Annual Quilts at the Harbour Show and Sale will be this weekend. Mark your calendar and plan to attend. There's something for everyone. The weather this time of year is usually really great and there are other events in the area this weekend too - like the Deep Roots Music Festival in Wolfville and lots of Pick your Own and Farmer's Markets displaying all the luscious goodies of harvest season. Just yesterday at a fruit stand I saw a farm wagon full of containers of sunflowers just ready for you to take home - so lovely and so French looking!!! Would be ideal for my tall French granite ware pitcher! Must pick some up!

But I'm wandering.... back to the Quilt show.

There will be a bake table this year and if it's anything like previous years there will be home garden overflow, pickles, jams and jellies as well as yummy baked goods.

A gently used table will be holding piles of needlework and quilting magazines, books, patterns and excess fabrics from local quilters' stashes. All at remarkably affordable prices and of course no tax on anything sold.

There will likely be some small gift-type items and of course, we are welcoming back many quilters who display regularly with this show, all with new work for you to see.

Refreshments: tea or coffee, sweets and sandwiches and maybe muffins will be free and it's so nice to sit and sip a cup of something warm and have a nibble while chatting to friends both old and new.

We accept both cash and personal cheques for purchases and want you to know that 20% commission from the sales made will go to the church as well as your free will offering for the opportunity to view. We usually make around $600 or $700 from the sale and this is a significant amount in this tiny community.

I don't need to remind previous yrears' visitors that this little heritage church with it's original ca.1840's church furnishings shows to quilts to perfection - be sure to bring your cameras and also take a look at the lovely burial grounds and talk to one of the church deacons (who will be manning the bake table) who will give you facts about the congregation's history.
