A FEW WORDS ABOUT SHIPPING: This past winter has seen an astronomical rise in shipping costs in both Canada and the United States. Of course this impacts sellers and buyers both! I know I look twice these days at costs for shipping when thinking about buying online. A good rule of thumb is – how easily can I source this item locally? Can I source it locally at all? And finally if I can source it will the cost of gasoline to go and get it be just as expensive as having it shipped? I regularly order a 6 month supply of fair trade organic coffee from a local roastery who give a discount for larger purchases and will ship direct to my local post office – otherwise it would be a round trip of at least 70 miles and the use of several hours of my time – so buying online can be a real saving!
With a specialty item such as vintage quilt kits, your chances of sourcing the item you want in the local marketplace can be slim. My inventory, which is the largest in North America, offers you lots of options.
I have always charged less for shipping than the actual cost to do so, and have in the past offered free shipping to any address in North America. I am doing so again - it runs from today until midnight May 31, 2013. Buy one or several with no charge for shipping which includes insurance, tracking and airmail post. You won’t be sorry you did – this offer applies to any item currently listed on this site.
FREE SHIPPING TO ANY ADDRESS IN NORTH AMERICA UNTIL MAY 31/13!!

VINTAGE QUILT KITS: NEW LISTINGS
It’s been said that patience is a virtue, and I’m feeling really virtuous lately, because after a long dry spell with few really new finds, I’ve had a couple of very good weeks, finding some very scarce, or some very old and scarce kits in great condition! I want to present several here for you today.
This darling kit shown above is becoming increasingly hard to source, and it seems I no sooner have one of the three different models in stock than it is snapped up. JCA, which specialized in baby quilts did several kits drawing on the classic Beatrix Potter illustrations so popular over the years. The kit which is 38×43 inches is stamped on a prequilted textile and comes complete will instructions and all necessary floss – this is simply darling.
Price: JCA Beatrix Potter Mama Bunny 38×43 complete and ready to finish: $125USD +$20USD for shipping = $145USD
If you are looking to complete a whole nursery decor, I have several patterns and kits for cross stitching birth samplers, growth charts and pictures. As well I have a selection of the darling children’s pottery dishware made by Royal Doulton and Royal Albert. Email me at: janet@novascotiaquilts.com for your needs.

I recently acquired this Paragon 01096 The Farmer in the Dell this child’s quilt is 40×60 inches and is printed for cross stitch on eggshell percale. Dating to 1943, this 70 year old kit is rarely seen. If necessary I can supply floss to complete this kit from my large stash, some of which is vintage.
Price: Farmer in the Dell, Paragon 01096 $160USD + $20USD shipping = $185, floss extra if needed.
Contact: janet@novascotiaquilts.com if you wish me to place a HOLD on this treasure

Above is the earliest version of Paragon’s #0111 “Tradition” measuring 90×113 inches. This early version was published in a box with a black and white picture on the front. Judging from the style of the instructions and from the reverse side showing Paragon Needlecraft kits displayed in room settings so typical of the late 30’s and 1940’s I suspect the kit dates from that period. Definitely it was before the adaptation of Zip Code on July 1, 1963 as the corporate office is listed as being in NY10, New York. The kit does not come with floss, but is meant to be done in one colour choice to suit your decor. Original box and printed instructions are of course included.
PRICE: Paragon #0111 90×113 Tradition $260USD +$20USD shipping = $280 USD
********************************************************************************
The complete original floss kit is very seldom seen for this lovely Paragon kit. This is the 1978 “Colonial America ” cross stitch kit in double bed size at 81×97 inches. There is some very minor age spotting which will likely soak out when the quilt is completed. This kit is opened, but not started in will come to you in a strng ziplock project bag. Below is a picture of the floss kit.
Price: Paragon “Colonial America” 81×97 includes floss kit $275USD + $20USD shipping = $295USD

And finally, a treasure I’ve been waiting for years to acquire. It is beautiful, and was well worth the wait! The top picture is of Progress’s The Apple Blossom #1438. The bottom picture is off the stamped applique pieces;. This kit was published also before Zip Codes came into effect and I suspect in the late 1940’s or erly 1950’s. Complete instructions come with the kit, but as is often the case, the binding is missing. This is easily remedied by matching your favourite colour among the applique pieces, and making your own bias binding for the scalloped edges of the quilt.
PRICE: $450USD + $20USD shipping = $470USD

PROGRESS QUILT KIT #1354 – DOGWOOD MEDALLION
From time to time, I have one or the other of these pretty vintage Bucilla Applique quilt kits in stock.Above is Dogwood #3128, and pictured below is Dogwood Blossoms #1587. Both these kits, which are prized by collectors and date to the early 1970’s don’t stay in stock long.
I’m pretty sure I have one or possibly both of these vintage quilt kits in stock, and plan to do an inventory between Christmas and New Year, but will check sooner than that if you request it.
PRICE: $395USD + $30USD shipping = $425 for either of these lovely kits
*************************************************************
I was talking to a good customer of mine yesterday who is working on one of the Bucilla vintage kits because she loves and misses the dogwood flowers seen in her native Kentucky – so of course, I had to send her the pictures I have posted below!
I recently acquired this completed quilt top: this treasure is waiting to be handquilted and is marked for stunning and profuse quilting of feather garlands on a background grid and should be a striking addition to your home.
This Progress kit is called Dogwood Medallion and is #1354 and was put out in 1943, it will finish to 79×97 as all the Progress kits do. It was shown as “Apple Blossom” in the Herrschner’s catalogue.
I suspect because America had just entered the war after the attack on Pearl Harbour late in 1942, that production was soon cut short and this may be part of the reason why this lovely vintage kit is so scarce today. I have waited years for this one and don’t expect another to come my way!
PRICE: $450USD + $30USD shipping with tracking and insurance
Remember, until December 31 you will have free shipping within North America for all purchases.
In addition, any of you who received the December Nova Scotia Quilts Newsletter can use their special code for a significant reduction on any purchases.
Why not sign up for the newsletter now – send me an email – janet@novascotiaquilts.com – with “sign me up” as the title line and you’ll have access to special offers, and see new acquisitions before they appear on the website.

100% cotton Progress Vintage Applique Quilt Kits for sale
Tree of Life – #1492 is a perennial favourite, and is hard to keep in stock. I have it on hand again, and am offering it in sealed condition!
The above quilt kit, is another favourite, being a patriotic quilt which has been available in one form or another since the late 1800’s – this is a winner as it’s a more subtle, traditional quilt than the red white and blue ones and will suit a period room so well!
PRICE: Americana, double, $395USD + $30USD shipping = $425 USD
This one is absolutely breathtaking!! One that seldom appears on the secondary market – I had it only once before, and had pretty much decided I wouldn’t find it again. but here it is!
I recently sold the Majestic I had listed, but bonus! it appeared in the large group I recently acquired. So here it is again folks – it is based on the classic chintz palampores that came out of the Coromandel coast of India in the late 17th century, and took Europe by storm – they are still being manufactured by den Haan and Wagenmakker in Holland and I have my eye on one!!!
Price: Majestic double 79×97 finished size $395USD _ $20USD Shipping = $415USD
SOLD

Below is Progress #1403 The Iris, double sized finishes to 79×97. This is a lovely kit – very midcentury in feeling and showing lovely colour variations. This is the earlier version in cotton – the later one features 50/50 cotton polyester and is less desirable.
PRICE: The Iris $395USD + $30USD shipping = $425USD
