VINTAGE QUILT KITS: AN UPDATE

The other day I was going through my inventory of vintage quilt kits and realized that I have many I haven’t yet posted. So I’ve just spent the afternoon taking photographs and noting down details about each kit. All these kits have been carefully stored and in some cases are still unopened from the factory.

If you see a kit you would like to purchase, email me mailto:janet@novascotiaquilts.com and I will reserve it for you and give you payment details.

Above is a Paragon #01188 Applique quilt kit, 100% cotton and 82×97 or double bed size. It is a Baltimore style design in shades of blue and rose calico and solids – really pretty!! It is called “Garden Bouquet” and I’ve been waiting a long time to find this one aain!

Price: for Paragon Garden Bouquet $275 USD + $25 SHIPPING for a TOTAL of $300 USD

Above is Paragon’s vintage applique quilt kit “American Glory”  #00147; 81×97 inches worked in reproduction calico and pre-dating  the bicentennial in 1976 by quite a few years. All pieces are 100% cotton and are to be appliqued onto 100% ecru cotton. It should make a lovely statement on an antique bed.  This is a very rare quilt!
PRICE: $300USD + $25 USD SHIPPING for a TOTAL of  $325  USD

Next up is a Progress Applique quilt kit called “Americana”  , 81×97 inches finished size. This kit is one a whie background with the eagle and stars appliqued in a lovely shade of ochre . Again, this kit was inspired by the bicentennial but appeared on the market some time before that date. Patriotic quilts had a new popularity at the end of the Second World War and the Korean conflict and haven’t yet waned in popularity. All materials again are 100% cotton and Progress kits are known for their quality.

PRICE $275 USD + $25 USD SHIPPING for a TOTAL of $300 USD

The quilt kit below is another Progress #1507  full sized kit – 79×97 finished size. It makes a bold 70’s statement with the “Garden Flowers” in a central oval cartouche with swags in each corner on the border of the quilt. All 100% cotton and lovely calico prints. In immaculate condition too!

PRICE: $250 USD + $25 USD SHIPPING for a TOTAL of $275 USD for “Garden Flowers”

The above , of course, is a classic and it has been out of stock for some time. At last I found one! Progress vintage Tree of Life Applique quilt kit 79×97 completely intact right down to the calico bias binding and carefully stored – you’ll love this one – 100% cotton materials.

Paragon Garden Bouquet Applique Quilt Kit:

Pictures above are of Paragon Garden Bouquet applique quilt kit circa 1974 – certainly a vintage find. This one doesn’t appear often and is snapped up when it is. I was lucky enough to finally get one and show it here in it’s unopened condition. The second picture shows the applique fabric and the bias binding which is included in the kit – this one will go fast!
PRICE: $210 USD which includes trackable and insured shipping
January 10, 2010 this kit is on hold

Progress Bowknot #1345 Applique Quilt Kit
Above is the first picture of my fabulous treasure! This is a vintage and partially completed Progress applique kit. It is Bowknot #1345 which does not bear a date but is clearly from the 1930’s. The work on this lovely quilt kit is absolutely impeccable, but you will need to do some matching as the rest of the applique pieces did not come with it.

As you all know, Kona solid cottons have a range of over 200 shades and if you cannot find vintage percale I’m sure you will find something among the choices from Kona. Any of the online stores should be able to help out, but if you would rather, I can source the fabric from my local Quilt Shop for you at my cost to acquire it.

As you can see there will also be some simple embroidery required to add the finishing details to this lovely quilt. The bias binding will also need to be provided and should be a good match for one of the basic applique colours – what fun!!

The quilt is finished using the marked scalloped edge guidelines which are clearly visible, as are the quilting lines. This quilt top is remarkably clean but has one or two barely noticeable age spots and should be soaked to freshen and remove the guideline markings.
As you can see the picture on the front of the envelope is crumbled from age, as is the bag from a store called Pomeroy’s which I presume is long out of business. I will enclose it in a transparent sleeve and support it with cardboard when I ship the kit.

What a treasure to find – I waited many years for this one!!! And I predict it will sell this week, so if you want it please contact asap to put a hold on this.
SOLD! June 30/09 Price: $295 USD including trackable and insured shipping, plus cost to match fabrics if you wish this done at this end.

Bucilla Jiffy Stitch Quilt Kit – Liberty or Americana Eagle

I now have this lovely Bucilla Bicentennial quilt kit back in stock after a long search!! This is the original version which was offered in suggested colourway of red and ecru, but having seen the kit for the version offerred as a premium for 16 Mule Team Borax, which was in red and royal blue, I’d suggest that colourway. This kit doesn’t come with the thread kit, so it’s your choice how you finish it and it will make a wonderful keepsake.
PRICE: $225 USD includes postage
Our national holiday – Canada Day – is on Wednesday and I am convening a quilt show that day, so please be patient with email requests, which I will try to answer within a few hours of receiving them. Celebrate Canada!!!
