I want to highlight several recent finds – these kits had been out of stock and are getting harder to find, but I was finally succesful!

This kit above, which has been started with excellent stitchery, is Paragon’s American Glory, #1147 sized at 82×97. There is still lots to be done, and this kit is always so striking!

Below is another treasure. This is Paragon’s Americana #01189 in king size 97×97. It has been started, but only just and is complete with the floss kit. This is the cross stitch version of the applique kit above. Another stunner!

Progress #53 Majestic applique quilt kit 79x97

Majestic is the rare and hard to find 20th century version of the lovely palampores sent to Europe out of the Dutch East India Company base in India during the late 1600’s. Later in the 1700’s both European and North American fabric houses were printing their versions of the indiennes and those very same versions are being reprinted this summer and offered for sale – exciting news – I’m considering getting one for myself from den Haan and Waagenmaker in Holland – they are neautiful!

Progress #1492 Tree of Life applique quilt kit 79x97

Above is the very lovely vintage Progress #1492 Tree of Life applique quilt kit ,which I recently got back in stock. This kit harder and harder to find, is in 100% cotton fabrics – lovely!

PARAGON REMEMBRANCE 01164 cross stitch quilt kit

As promised, I am starting to list the vintage quilt kits I have on hand to add to those already listed.

Remember, all my vintage quilt kits ship free anywhere in North America and we share 50/50 anywhere in the world other than North America.

A pair of twin sized Paragon Remembrance cross stitch quilt kits including vintage Peri-Lusta floss!!

Size 72×103 inches each

The Remembrance pattern is adapted for cross stitch from a 19th century traditional applique quilt in the red, green and ochre colours which were so popular at that time and spread throughout the United States as settlers moved west into the plains and the foothills of the southwest and northwest. This is a slightly folky, but still quite formal pattern and would look lovely in a guest room furnished in mid 19th c antiques. My fingers are itching to open these kits and start stitching, so please put a hold on them and save me from myself – hehe!!!

On counting up the skeins of floss it is apparent that the original buyer, who purchased these beauties in 1958 ( 52 years ago! receipt enclosed), was the careful sort and she purchased more than she would need. Peri-Lusta floss in these quantities is simply no longer available at any price so the new owner will be incredibly lucky not to have to substitute. Below is a picture of one of the 4 smaller bags of floss – as well there is a huge ziplock bag with as much again as all 4 together!!

Christmas is acoming......

Yesterday. I lit my woodstove for the first time this fall. This brought home to me the fact that summer is gone and Christmas is just around the corner. I want to remind folks in the United States of a currently very favourable rate of exchange. For close to a year the Canadian $ has been almost par with the USD. I’ve personally found this a lovely state of affairs as many of my purchases of fabric and quilting notions are made in the
United States. Fortunately, I have a stash that would supply me for several lifetimes, so I can forego purchases right now.

I have another crib quilt, again with a hanging sleeve that is called Beach Teddies. Ordinarily I don’t “do” what are called panels as I find they are so frequently of questionable quality, colour and design. This one, though, I fell in love with – from the nautical theme, the country colours and the very good design that Theresa Kogut is known for. This was “recreation” while doing a huge predominantly black Amish type quilt last summer and I was so delighted with the results. Usually panel quilts are only minimally quilted and often it is machine quilting. This one received my meticulous care and handquilting that brings out all the details. I will post a picture shortly. As always, 100% cotton materials – top, backing, batting and thread. Price: $195 CDN or as of today, $158 USD.

My last completed quilt is a small wallhanging or table topper I call Lavender Parterre. This is an all original design of mine that of course is hand appliqued and hand quilted. It would look exquisite as a table topper on a victorian tea table in your sunroom this winter, wouldn’t it?
