100% cotton Progress Vintage Applique Quilt Kits for sale

I’ve carefully examined and inventoried a large group of vintage quilt kits I’ve just acquired.
Here is the information on a group of six Progress Applique Quilt Kits, dating from the late 50’s and early 60’s – these are classic in design and range from the very subtle Progress #1462 – Majestic Poppy, which I posted about last time:

The others  are  classics in jewel bright, glowing colours enhanced by touches of hand embroidery.
 

Progress #1492 Tree of Life 79x97

 

Tree of Life – #1492 is a perennial favourite, and is hard to keep in stock. I have it on hand again, and am offering it in sealed condition!

Progress #1496 Americana (Eagle and Stars) 71x97 finished size

 

The above quilt kit, is another favourite, being a patriotic quilt which has been available in one form or another since the late 1800’s – this is a winner as it’s a more subtle, traditional quilt than the red white and blue ones and will suit a period room so well!

Progress #1507 Garden Flowers 79x97 finished size

 

This one is absolutely breathtaking!! One that seldom appears on the secondary market – I had it only once before, and had pretty much decided I wouldn’t find it again. but here it is!

Progress #1553 Majestic 79x97 finished size

 

I recently sold the Majestic I had listed, but bonus! it appeared in the large group I recently acquired. So here it is again folks – it is based on the classic chintz palampores that came out of the Coromandel coast of India in the late 17th century, and took Europe by storm – they are still being manufactured by den Haan and Wagenmakker in Holland and I have my eye on one!!!

Below is Progress #1403  The Iris, double sized finishes to 79×97. This is a lovely kit – very midcentury in feeling and showing lovely colour variations. This is the earlier version in cotton – the later one features 50/50 cotton polyester and is less desirable.

The Traditional Wholecloth Quilt – kits to create an heirloom

Recently I’ve had some inquiries about traditional wholecloth quilt kits, and at the same time I’ve been completing a new inventory of kits I currently have in stock.
It turns out I haven’t really promoted these lovely kits for several years now, and have quite a few in stock at the moment. Below I will feature two Benartex kit designs that I have in stock…

Benartex - Anchors Aweigh by Holice Turnbow 40x54, includes back and binding

Above is the lovely “Anchors Aweigh” crib or youth bed size wholecloth quilt kit by Holice Turnbow – this is such a versatile size for a quilt – it makes up fairly quickly, can be used in many settings and because it is an off-white or ecru fits well into many decorating schemes and is very easy to wash and keep fresh.

It’s my understanding that the Holice Turnbow designed kits by Benartex are still available, if somewhat scarce, but I’ve not found any indication that the Spartex/Doublestencil kits are still being made. Occasionally one will turn up in the secondary market. My next post – next week I hope will feature some of these kits.
  
The machinery to produce the very wide printed tops is now vintage if not antique and it has become increasingly difficult to find or make parts for this machinery as it wears out.
 

Benartex - wholecloth - feathered pineapple - available 86x106 and 40x40

Above is a picture taken from the front of the Benartex package, showing the “Feathered Pineapple” design – a classic 19th century design I currently have available in both a king/queen size at 86×106 and also in a baby size at 40×40 - the smaller size would make a luxurious tabletopper for afternoon tea and of course would look lovely over the back of a sofa, thrown over a cupboard door or as a wallhanging. Picture it enhancing a christening robe for a darling baby!

SOME DOUBLESTENCIL SPARTEX APPLIQUE VINTAGE QUILT KITS

I have several suggestions for your Santa list or for your own Christmas Wish List below – any of these suggestions are ideal for the quilter!

Because these kits so seldom appear on the secondary market, not too many people are aware of them. Doublestencil Spartex are better known for their extremely high quality wholecloth quilt kits and I can attest to that quality, having made several of these in the past. I currently have two or three of these in queen/double and will list them soon, but today I want to share these lovely applique quilt kits with you and offer them for sale in time for you to put them on your wish list and make sure Santa finds out – Lol.

Pictured above is the Pennsylvania Folk Art II queen sized kit – this kit is very like the many lovely hand appliqued quilt kits offered for sale on Amish Quilt websites and in Amish areas of Pennsylvania today. It comes complete with the vintage prints and solids, and will need your addition of a backing and batting. I believe I may have a Spartex backing in queen sized on hand – just ask and I’ll check for you.

SOLD MAY 14/09 I am asking $175 USD for this lovely quilt kit.

In addition, I also have the crib sized or wallhanging sized quilt kit at $95 USD This lovely smaller quilt is displayed hanging above the bed in the picture.

My next picture shows Americana Tulips by Doublestencil in the wallhanging or crib quilt size – 40×40. This lovely vintage kit is in the tradition of red, green and yellow 19th century applique and reflects the practice of making a miniature classic quilt rather than one that clearly says “nursery”. A few in this genre have come down to us and are prized and have found their place in museum collections. This version is based on a quilt in the Smithsonian Institution Collection.
My price for this lovely quilt kit is $95 USD and includes the backing and binding , and I also have a kit containing the two large rectangular shams for the same price – $95 USD backing included.

Last on today’s list is is “Floral Album” by Doublestencil – this too is for the crib quilt/wallhanging kit shown in the picture hanging on the wall above the bed. I’m still hoping to find the full sized kit, but haven’t seen one on the secondary market for over a year – I will keep my fingers crossed. This quilt kit, too, is based on a quilt in the Smithsonian Collection.
The charming small quilt kit that I have is priced at $95 USD.

Keep in mind that any of these quilt kits can be made up and completed entirely by hand and will use the very best 100% cotton battings, backings and thread. There is no time to complete these before Christmas but at the moment, I can promise delivery for early spring of 2009.

In closing I’d like to quote from an email by a recent customer: “The package arrived in good condition! Both quilts are beautiful and I’m anxious to begin a new project! Thank you again for your excellent service.” Purchases are mailed as soon as payment is received and are insured and trackable.
