Vintage Applique Quilt Kits: Bucilla #3128 “Dogwood” and Bucilla #1587 “Dogwood Blossom”

Today has been just a lovely day, much more like midsummer than early fall, and it’s so nice to have the door and windows open while enjoying going back and forth to do chores that won’t be as pleasant once winter is here!

I’m reminded that shopping for the Christmas season will be upon us before we know it, so I will get busy on listing all the items in my vintage quilt kit inventory.

Below are the two lovely Bucilla applique quilt kits that have Dogwood flowers as their subject.

Above is Bucilla #1587 “Dogwood Blossoms” size 84×100. This a lovely wreath-style quilt kit in immaculate conditi

Above is Bucilla’s other kit featuring Dogwood flowers: this is Bucilla #3128 “Dogwood” and this kit, too, is in excellent condition.  This kit is also 84×100 in size and is a trellis-like design. Beautiful colours in both kits – either will become an  heirloom treasure.

Get in touch with me:  to discuss purchase. I will be happy to put a hold on either of these lovely vintage applique kits.

More vintage applique and cross stitch quilt kits

Seeing old friends back in inventory again is always great, but it’s even better when I find some items I’ve wanted to get hold of for years with little success because they so rarely appear on the secondary market: take a quick peek at what I have in stock and on its way to me

This one above – Cross Stitch American Eagle by Bucilla a double/queen kit is sometimes called Liberty on some packaging. This was a kit developed from a traditional pattern and was presented in time for the US Bicentennial in 1976.

PRICE: $225USD + shipping

Below is a picture of the wonderful vintage PeriLusta thread kit that goes with American Sampler

this beautiful Paragon #01171 double/queen cross stitch kit. I know the picture says it’s a single, but I just keep one picture on file. This kit is harder to find these days too, so I’m happy to have it in stock again.

PRICE: $265 USD includes the thread kit + shipping will be about $15USD

Above is the lovely Whig Rose  cross stitch Paragon kit back in stock – this time in a king sized kit – 108wide by 103 long – this will make a fabulous statement on your bed!

PRICE: $225USD + shipping

Above is “Acorn Harvest” by Bucilla #3218,  size 81×108 another traditional pattern based on 19th century heritage quilts.

PRICE: $200USD + shipping – SOLD Feb16/11

Another lovely vintage cross stitch kit by Bucilla – #2323 “Briar Rose” a double/queen at 90×103

PRICE: $200 USD + shipping   SOLD MARCH 5, 2011

Above another Bucilla #3022 Williamstown a double/queen too, 90×103

PRICE: $200USD + shipping  SOLD Feb16/11

Above is a rare find – this is the rarer version of two  applique kits done by Bucilla – this one is #1587 and is a double

As you can see, the  colours of the appliques are lovely vintage percale

PRICE: $300USD + shipping SOLD Feb16/11

After a bit of a wait, I have managed to replace my Paragon Country Garden #01175, 90×103 a double/queen – this one won’t stay in stock long, judging by my past experience!

PRICE: $225USD + shipping

This kit is another Paragon cross stitch kit called Renaissance. It is a king size at 108 wide and 103 long. I had never seen this kit before and I’ve been collecting for years!

PRICE: $225USD + shipping  SOLD FEB 16/11

This is also a kit I had depaired of ever finding. Now, granted it came out of package with the front colour picture lost, but it has 4 pages on instructions, thread list and graphs and I think it’s fairly easy to see that it will be striking. It can be worked either in a two colour variation or in the traditional mid 19th century shades of two values of red, two of green and two of yellow. A treasure indeed!

PRICE: $225USD + shipping

And finally – nother that is new to my inventory. I’m thrilled to have this one. This is a Paragon cross stitch kit called “Iris” and is a double. The design and placement of the irises is very reminiscent of an applique pattern in te Mountain Mist Blue Book, and is very 30’s. I’m so tempted to hang on to this one and do it for myself. I need to be realistic though – too many quilts and too little time! Ah well.

PRICE: $225USD + shipping

So long for now – stay warm and safe – it was still  light way after 6PM today – spring is just around the corner.

Some vintage floral applique kits

Recently, I have had some enquiries regarding my inventory of vintage applique quilt kits. It is time anyway for an update, as my most recent acquisition, the very vintage Paragon Rose Wreath kit has arrived and I have had time to look it over.

PARAGON #01057 Rose Wreath Applique Kit  all cotton 80×100

As far as I can see, all the applique has been done by an expert hand and it is ready for the embroidered touches. There is ample vintage DMC embroidery floss and the previous owner has noted in her own hand the numbers, each with a sample and a note of what colour goes where. She signs it and leaves her phone number – a sweet touch. The cardboard box front is in the box, along with the top, the floss, a vintage pair of embroidery scissors, and of course the bias binding that will complete your quilt. The quilting lines are all there, waiting to guide  your handquilting stitches. There is some slight foxing, due to it having been stored in a cardboard box, but that should be ameliorated if not eliminated by a wash in a gentle oxygen based product after the quilting is done and the quilt is ready for use.

The quilt kit dates from the time before plastic was used to package everything – I would guess mid to late 40’s, so we’re talking very very early. I was very lucky to find this one!!

PRICE:  $400USD+$25USD shipping = $425USD

If purchased between now and Dec 31/10, shipping will be free within North America

This all cotton applique kit by Bucilla likely dates to the early 70’s – still vintage but not as old as some I’ve been lucky to find……. It is a double/queen and everything is there, complete as the packaging is unopened it is in mint condition.

PRICE: $275USD+$20USD postage and shipping = $295USD

If purchased between now and Dec31/10 shipping in North America will be free

BUCILLA: #3128 – Dogwood  Applique, all cotton size 84×1–

This is another lucky find – it is unopened, so in immaculate condition and the binding is enclosed. Judging by the furniture style in the photograph, I would guess the kit dates to the 1960’s

PRICE: $375USD+$20USD shipping=$395USD

If purchased between now and Dec 31/10 shipping to North American destinations will be free

BUCILLA #8602 FASCINATION applique quilt kit 81×100 all cotton – this kit has been begun by an expert hand but there is plenty remaining for you to do! A beautiful vintage kit and not one that is seen often either.

PRICE $275USD+$20USD shipping = $295USD  SOLD

If purchased before Dec 31/10 shipping within North America will be free

A note about shipping – from Canada to any point in North America tends to be fairly expensive, so as a nod to getting the best value for your Christmas shopping dollars, I am waiving shipping to any point in North America right up until New Years Eve. So if you have asked Santa for one of my gift certificates (available in any denomination) you still have a chance to order after Christmas Day and still get that bonus!

In addition, any vintage quilt kit you purchase will be packed along with three free handmade sachets filled lovely fresh lavender – this is a $25 value in itself!

I want to give collectors a heads up. This week has been a very lucky one for me. I’ve managed to find two very desirable vintage applique quilt kits which are on their way to me.
The first is Progress #1427 – Tree of Life – and it is excellent condition – in its original packaging and complete. 100% cotton of course and 79×97.
The second one is a complete and perfect Bucilla Dogwood Blossoms, double/queen size.
Now to make my trifecta complete I need to find a Pansy kit, but that is not too likely.
I will post further details on these quilt kits as soon as they arrive and I can confirm their condition. Contact me at mailto:janet@novascotiaquilts to reserve either of these lovely and very sought after vintage applique kits.
