About Me and Contact Info

Several readers have reminded me that my About Me and Contact pages are currently unavailable, so I am doing a temporary post until I can develop new pages.

I have had a Quilt Studio in  my 1820’s heritage home for over 15 years now, and offer custom quilt designing and completely handstitched heritage quilts in all sizes from miniatures and doll quilts up to king sized quilts such as the two current commissions I am working on: a whitework wholecloth quilt and a pictorial applique quilt for a soon to be married couple. My designs are one of a kind and my handwork is impeccable.

In addition I deal in vintage quilt kits: pieced from Hearthside and Yours Truly, Applique and Cross Stitch kits from Paragon, Progress/Tobin, and Bucilla, and occasionally rarer kits from small companies operating during the 1920’s and 30’s as they become available.

I can be reached at  mailto:janet@novascotiaquilts.com

I have recently begun a sister website http://www.funkybabymine.blogspot.com that showcases a variety of decorative items of vintage and antique origin such as tablelinens, bedlinens, children’s items and other quirky and lovely finds suitable for your french Chic, shabby chic, cottage and romantic home. Check it out often – you never know what I will find! And by the way, I have a giveaway running until the end of July – sign up and keep your fingers crossed – you may win a lovely hand embroidered tea cloth or a funky retro apron!

Hi, I am wondering what your hours are over the next week. I am dropping down to Valley for a few days from Cole Harbour and I am searching for a Nova Scotia baby quilt for a gift for my soon to be born granddaughter.

Hi Paul: You’re in luck – I have two smaller quilts in stock, either is suitable for use as a baby quilt and in lovely strong bright colours, fully machine washable and entirely hand stitched.
I’m open most days – from around 10:30 on until 7 or so, and will welcome you then. To find my studio, take #359 north out of Kentville (turn right at the Cornwallis Inn and you are on #359) until it ends at Hall’s Harbour and then follow the road around the Harbour, past the Lobster Pound and continue up the hill staying on the paved road past two intersections. My home is on the right and has a sign by the road. You need to watch for it closely as the property is heavily treed.

  • Hello up there, question I have acquired several vintage cross stitch kits would you be interested in them? your prices- are they for completed quilts or just the kit? I am a long arm quilted for hire and get these to resell form time to time. You seem to get a terrific price for them. I’m confused as to whether you sell the kit for that price or a finished quilt. I can’t tell from your site. I just talked to Holice Turnbow’s daughter the other day he gave his artwork to benartex for a new one 2 yrs ago and they have done nothing with it. It’s a new feather top but they are sitting on it. I was always a hand quilter from 1967-1994 but since the carpal tunnel the machine has saved my quilting efforts. best regards gloria guyer Cascade Falls Quilts and Quilting service. Idaho usa

Hi Gloria: You raise several questions. About Benartex wholecloth kits – my understanding is that there are only two or three designs currently available in the primary market and those are very hard to source. The story as I’ve heard it is that the machines which will print a double/queen with the washout ink are very old, no new ones being made, and increasingly hard to find parts to repair them as they break down. This may explain why Holice’s new design has not reached the market – I hope it does!
AS for what I sell, mainly, and for the last 10 – 15 yhears I have been selling kits, but I do have some kits that are works in progress, and some finished quilt tops not yet quilted, and a few pristine completed quilts from kits.
My good prices are predicated on my very extensive inventory, my very fast and reliable service and the fact that I will only sell kits in very good condition. The fact that I have been in business so long also speaks for my reputation.
Having said all that, sales are currently slower due to the economic climate, but let me know what kits you have and what you would wish to get for them.
