Welcome to the website of Hall's Harbour Handcrafts, located close to the ruggedly beautiful Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, on Canada's East coast.

My quilt studio is in my 1820's heritage home, surrounded by trees and wild gardens.  Enjoy the peace and serenity which inspires my work.  Visit the nearby fishing village of Hall's Harbour where you can observe the action of the world's highest tides.  Visit artists' studios, hunt for antiques and sample seafood and lobster.  If you wish to stay a while, there are several bed and breakfasts in the village and lots of other things to do and see nearby.

If you cannot visit my studio in person, rest assured that my custom quilts are made in the traditional way - entirely by hand every step of the way.  They are made of the finest available 100% cotton materials in a smoke-free home, and are truly one-of-a-kind.

Folk Art

I'm just trying out this new feature which will allow me to post my latest images! I'm very happy to have this up and running, and look forward to showing you what I've been doing recently.

Some of you may know that after having loved and collected Nova Scotian Folk Art for many years, I have decided to offer some carefully selected pieces for sale in my Quilt Studio this summer. A good example of these pieces is a lovely polychrome wood carving of a team of oxen. This piece was carved by Donald Armstrong of Granville Beach, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. Mr Armstrong is a retired dairy farmer, now in his late eighties, whose work depicts the working animals common on farms here fifty to sixty years ago. Some teams are still kept by farmers today as a hobby.

I hope you enjoy seeing this piece - I know it makes me smile every time I look at it. If you are interested in purchasing this piece or inquiring about other wonderful pieces I have, please contact me at janet@novascotiaquilts.com.

I have not stopped making quilts, not by a long shot, and have had the busiest year ever. I've also won an award in the US, of which I'm very proud! I'm entering the summer season with a slight backlog of orders, but will work hard at getting lead time down to a reasonable level for those of you who place orders for special commissions this season.

Enjoy the summer months - hope to see some of you at my studio in Hall's Harbour - a wonderful place to visit.
